a certificate from the police is required, see Schedule to

Orders in Council Nos. 6A and 16.

The transport of explosives is regulated:-

(a) On Railways and Canals by Byelaws made by the railway

companies or canal companies under Section 35 of the Aet, and sanctioned by the Ministry of Transport. model Code has been prepared.

(b) In Harbours by Byelaws made by the various Harbour

Authorities under Section 34 of the lot, and sanctioned by the Board of Trade. A model Code has been prepared.

(o) on roads, by Orders of Secretary of State No. 11.

Explosives must be packed for transport and the packages marked in accordance with the requirements of Orders of Seoretary of State Nos. 7, 7A and 73.

The importation of explosives into Great Britain ia

allowed only by licence of the Home Secretary. Gunpowder and

certain explosives such as safety cartridges for small arms are

exempted from this licence under the Explosives hot, 1875.

It may be added that the use of Explosives is not dealt

with by the Explosives Act, but so far as mines and quarries

are concerned certain safety conditions are prescribed by

Orders made under the Coal Mines Act, 1911 by The Metalliferous

Mines Act and by Special Rules under the Quarry kota.
